Music video draft 2 and feedback (Ben + Courtney)

This is our second draft for our music video with feedback below.

Feedback

What works well
Nice use of sepia in the explorer scenes
Varied number of shot types

Even better if
Sort the focus out on some shots - the shot is not in focus and then changes
Need more of a link between the narrative - the creatures in the wood and the explorer (add in a black and white photograph that the explorer has on his desk
Why does the explorer have a girlie hand on the reach out?

With this feedback we plan to investigate the focus on the relevant shots and work out whether we can digitally fix them or if we will have to replace/re-shoot them. We will also try adding in a shot of the explorer looking at a photo of the other performer early on in the video and see how that effects the narrative; if good we may also add in similar shots later in the video. We will also re-shoot the shot of the hands or manipulate the existing clip to perform a gender-switch.

Digipak draft 1 and feedback (Ben + Courtney)

This is our first draft for the Digipak, below is the feedback we received on it.

Feedback:

  • Swap the arms up image for the explorer
  • Add more track listings to the digipak
  • Add links to the explorer

From this feedback we plan to switch out the image in the lower left for one of the explorer (probably studying the map or using the binoculars), which will also help link in the narrative to the digipak. We will also add the entire track listing for the album, switching from a single to an album (which is also more suitable for the 6-panel digipak).

Magazine advert draft 1 and feedback (Ben + Courtney)

This is our first draft for the Magazine advert, it includes a range of different photoshop techniques below is the feedback we received on it.

Feedback:

  • Link to the explorer more
  • Could be much more detailed - you have the skills - go for it more
  • Well done for keeping a house style across both the digipak and magazine advert
From this feedback we plan to completely redesign the magazine advert with a more abstract concept which will link to the explorer more as well as showing our technical skills. We will also ensure that we keep the house style. We are planning on experimenting with different colours and different filters to make certain feature pop out and give the magazine advert more of a 3D feel.

Music video rough cut 1 and feedback (Ben+ Courtney)

Below is the first draft of our music video and the feedback that we received in order for us to improve.

Feedback:

What works well?
This video has made us smile! The commitment from the performers is brilliant! It made us feel like he was a voyager and then went on a trip!
Some really lovely shots - we liked the overlapping of the typewriter!
Storyline is clear - gone to find creatures in the wood! We liked it when he found the headpiece!

Even Better If
Shots are a little too long
Needs lip syncing a little earlier
More performance needed
Try to cut to the beat a little more
Would the weird people in the wood wear converse?
A few camera wobbles in the middle
Can you add in a shot where they come together after she reaches out to the voyager?

From this feedback we plan to cut down the clips so that they don't feel to lengthy and cut them to the beat. We also plan to cut out the camera wobbles and refine some others with digital stabilisation. We will also investigate different ways we can implement lip syncing/performance earlier into the video.

Final location scouting for all three products (Courtney)

Below are the locations that we decided to use for our music video, magazine advert and digipak. The locations will be fairly similar for all three because we believed that we got some good photographs of the artists and the explorer during the filming process so we decided that we would use those images. We decided to use the same locations for all three products because the audience would start to associate the person with that surroundings and therefore help to make the storyline more believeable.

The Leather Bottle
This little pub in the heart of Pleshey was the perfect location for the filming of the music video. It has an old fashioned interior, and the location is very warm and welcoming. The big table in the middle of the photo (left) is the perfect size for the explorers desk and there will be more than enough room to fit everything on top of it. It was also in this location where we took some photos that will be used within our digipak, having a range of different photos from different locations in the digipak will create as more diverse feel and hopefully help to tie all three aspects together.

Garnett's Wood
This was the other location that we chose to go with. overall it is quite a large woodland area and there a lot of different places within that one location where we could get a lot of different shots needed for the music video. There greens from the woodland area will help to create more of a contrast between the surrounding area and the clothes that the artists are wearing. This location will also be featuring in the magazine advert because we believe that the surrounding area will go well with the actors costumes and help to create a vibrant magazine advert. Just like the first location garnett's wood will also be featuring in the digipak to help to create a more diverse content within the digipak. It will also help to add more aspects of colour to the final product.

Final props information for all three products (Courtney)

Below are the final decisions for the props we used throughout the music video, Digipak and Magazine advert.

All of the props were used on the explorer and in scenes where the explorer is present. We decided that it would be better to keep the props the same for all three products because it would help the explorer to become more of a believeable character, and help the audiences to make connections between the music video, Digipak and magazine advert. There are no props used for the artist performance section so therefore the props will only be used for the music video and the digipak.

These binoculars are present throughout the majority of the narrative at the beginning of the music video the binoculars will be
viable on the desk when the explorer is working and planning his route. In the second section of the music video the explorer will interact with the binoculars and they will also be hung around his neck.

This camera will be placed on the explorers desk in the opening narrative section, the explorer will not interact with it at this point but it will be visible in the desk. in the second section of the narrative the camera will be placed around the explorers neck but the explorer will still not interact with the prop it will just be there for Mise purposes.

This old fashioned typewriter will only be used throughout the first section of the narrative but however, throughout that time the explorer will interact with the typewriter as he pretends to plan his journey - which happens in the second part of the narrative. I will provide paper to put into the typewriter, this makes the use of the typewriter look more realistic - because when he is pressing down on the keys they letters will be pressing on the paper and leaving a mark.

This map is going to be the main feature on the explorers desk, there will be several occasions where the explorer will point to different sections on the map and the move over to the typewriter. The map will also be used in the second half of the narrative where the explorer is walking through the forest in search of the headdress. Having the explorer looking at the map whilst he is walking through the forest will make his voyage more believable.
